Taj Mahal Restaurant
Francisco Marquez No. 134
Ciudad de México, Ciudad de México México
2 blocks from the Interior Circuit (Central Avenue)
Located on a quiet tree lined street this is the city’s best option for Indian food. It is a simple homey place, with a bit of Indian décor and a few outdoor tables. Start with the samosas, golden and crispy outside, savory within. Also memorable are onion bhaji (which means snack). Chicken tikka tandoori offers slices of fragrant baked chicken breast lightly dressed with oil and vinegar to bring out the flavor. Tikka masala is creamy, piquant and complex. Jalfrezi, a Bengal/Bangladeshi specialty, is a curry in which meat (or shrimp) is marinated then fried with chilies and tempered with a bit of cream. From saag (spinach) to shazlek (lamb marinated in yogurt) careful spicing is in order.
