About Cathedral Basilica Minor Immaculate Conception

This baroque building is famous for its gilded choir chairs and paintings by Mexican artists.
Previously it was in its place the old parish of the Assumption, that caught fire constructing in its place this cathedral towards 1695. Its facade is of sober baroque style and until 1965 was painted of yellow.
Inside, you will see Byzantine and fresco motifs from the beginning of the 20th century, as well as part of the 18th century furniture, such as the choir stalls. They say that the nights of full moon you can see the silhouette of a nun in the bell tower.
Also inside the Cathedral you can find the Museum of Sacred Art which has about 500 pieces of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries distributed in eight rooms.
