About Tour of Henequen
The Hacienda Sotuta de Peón is the place to visit where you can witness the agave process to obtain the natural fiber that the Mayans called Sosquil "Henequén". When touring the Hacienda, you will live a true journey through time, transported on wooden platforms pulled by "mules" known as "truck", on rails.
You will know the process step by step of the transformation of the Henequen, from plant to fiber and fiber to the finished product, to see the old machinery that has been rescued from the ravages of time and reconstructed for its operative process, as well as the opportunity to stop to observe the way in which the workers comb the fiber to turn it little by little into strings of different thickness.
¿What includes?
Visit: the Main House, Powerhouse, shredder machine, drying area, Vise Compression Plant Finished Products, the Ride Truck and the visit to Casa Maya with stories and anecdotes, and visit the Vis Cenotes (underground River Dzul-Ha).
